How to plan your first painting project

How to plan your first painting project

A paint job might be seen as a simple, one-day job in some cases. In fact, about 30% of our monthly projects are one-day jobs that often involve quick responses, such as repainting a dining room before Thanksgiving dinner or repairing drywall after installing a new air conditioning unit in a bedroom. However, in other cases, we like to go over several aspects before planning the job and discussing the types of methods and materials, expected time frame, and budget.

After being in business for over five years and operating mostly in Los Angeles County and the surrounding areas, we have learned that no two projects are the same. That is why the home remodeling industry, specifically the professional painting industry, has not fully transitioned to virtual estimates, but still relies heavily on on-site inspections. While this process takes more time and resources, there are many benefits for both customers and contractors.

It allows professionals to build trust and establish good relationships and expectations, which can prevent misunderstandings and confusion. It also helps customers plan and bring the home of their dreams to life.

Before booking a free estimate with any contractor, be sure to consider the following:

  1. Ask about the time limit for the estimate's validity. Some companies offer estimates that are only valid for seven days, while others offer longer periods. Our estimates are valid for 30 days from the date they are received by the client. The time limit helps protect both customers and companies from the dynamic shifts in the economy, such as changes in the prices of materials, labor, taxes, and rent.
  2. Make sure you receive a full, detailed scope of work before starting the project. The more details you have, the clearer the process will be, and you can be sure that there is agreement on even the smallest specifications, such as the types of materials to be used, extra services, and the beginning and ending dates. We believe that maximum clarity leads to happy customers and growth.
  3. Know your final goals. Are you looking to create a better energy in your space by changing the colors, or do you want to surprise your partner with a brand new bedroom? Do you care more about long-lasting results that will push your next project further into the future, or are you selling your home and just want a quick, cost-effective job? Do you appreciate a rough, imperfect style, or do you prefer a more modern, aesthetic look? Knowing your preferences will help us determine how much time to spend on minor details.
  4. Consider the most convenient way to do business. Will you be paying by cash (such as Zelle, Venmo, checks, or wire), or do you prefer a financing program? We recommend that our clients create a specific budget for the full project, and our representatives and production department will work to find the best fit for your goals and needs within your budget. We also offer our own financing program to help with affordability, with plans for two, five, and 10 years of monthly payments. Some of our products are energy efficient and are supported by the government with better loan terms. Our representatives can provide more information if needed.
